Carrageenan is a extract of hydrocolloid red seaweeed, with functions of gel, suspension, emulsion, thickener, stability, hold water. It used for food industry such as cheese, ice-cream, yaourt, butter, sausage, jelly, candy,meat products, aquatic products and so on. Carrageenan also has important functions for pharmaceutical, daily chemical, biological engineering.

Carrageenan (also called carrageenan gum) is a kind of natural polysaccharide hydrophilic gum extracted from the red seaweed of the sea plant. Carrageenan is extensively applied in many fields such as foodstuff, medicine, daily chemical industry, biochemistry, architectural coatings, textile dyeing, agriculture etc. In food industry, carrageenan can be used as gelling agent, thickener, stabilizer, suspending agent and clarifier, and can be used in products such as soft candy, jelly, sausage, canned meat, ice cream, beverage, condiment, milk, bionic food, jam, canned thick soup, beer, bread, pet food and so on.
Carrageenan refined is extracted from Eucheuma cottonii seaweeds. It forms thermoreversible gels at sufficient concentration and is highly sensitive to potassium ion which greatly enhances its gelling properties. Foodgel is stable in alkali medium.
Carrageenan is a naturally-occurring family of carbohydrates extracted from red seaweed.. Carrageenan is extracted with water under neutral or alkaline conditions at elevated temperature. Refined carrageenan is mainly recovered from solution by alcohol precipitation or potassium gelation.
